Sims 2 is a different game, no you do not need sims 1.

No the two are not connected at all. Someone else's code won't help you with your sims deluxe edition. I tried that when my sister lost hers. In the end I took mine to her house and downloaded it and she bought another expansion to run the game off of.

Naw, you don't need the 1st one to play the 2nd one.
to access the codes, you press CTRL+SHIFT+C
here are a few cheats:
motherlode <------- this gives you 50,000 simoleons
kaching <------- gives you 1,000 simoleons
boolProp testingCheatsEnabled true <------ this cheat you can do alot of stuff like bring your aspiration up, needs, and kill your sims.
