All I can remeber is vague bits and pieces. It was animated (poorly) and it was not Fantastic Planet or WIzards. I think it was based on an idea by Asimov or Silverberg or someone of the caliber. I am pretty sure it was foreign. The basic plot, I think was about an invasion going on and people getting turned to stone, and no, it was not Yellow Submarine! I am on this kick for looking at old movies and I cannot place this one for the life of me. I know it was shown here between 72 and 77, but it could have been made earlier. I seem to remember it being shown at a film festival but I am not sure, I was quite young then. Thank you for your help.

I think it was called Heavy Metal. Sammy Hagar sang the title song....i think. There were a bunch of what are now classic rockers on that soundtrack as well. This movie came out in 1981 though so I don't know if this is the one you are looking for.
