Tums, or any other antacid containing calcium carbonate (or magnesium carbonate) are fine. These antacids merely neutralize acid.
However, OTC antacids (such as Zantac) work via a different mechanism. They might be ok, but if Tums works, then stick with that.

I lived on Tums when I was pregnant with my 2nd child. I think I kept heartburn 24/7. My Dr. said that it was ok. My Dr. even recommended OTC Zantac also. But before she takes anything, she should talk it over with her Dr. because her circumstances could be different. Good luck and Congrats to you and your wife!!!

Yes, I took them when I was pregnant. Tums is the best for her. I got heartburn really bad with both of my children. Tums works well. also get her to drink Gingerale. It works well too.
Hope this helps you!

She can take tums. Preferablly at a different time then when she takes her prenatal.
Do not take any other kind of antacid.

You should talk to a doctor. I was given a list of over the counter medications that are safe to take while pregnant when I was pregnant. However, I still thought it was best to talk to my doctor before I took anything.
