Absolutely! Back in the 70's my dad worked for a tv station in Lansing, MI. They broadcast the wrestling matches when they came to town.
Dad had great stories about how a lot of it was staged, but that the wrestlers would get mad at each other and then it turned real. Including the Sheik bouncing a folding metal chair off another wrestlers head.
I love my dad's old work stories!

Yes, and also Gorgeous George, the guy with long curly blonde hair. Remember seeing a match with Haystack--always wore overalls. Probably only thing that would fit him.

Your list and Adam p. these are some good wrestlers but don't forget The Funks.
These were the wrestlers that did not have the big gimmicks to attract the fans.They wrestled for the sport.

I'm and old Detroit boy and remember watching leaping larry shane wrestle on our old three station tv. Had to get up to change the channel...God I'm getting old!!!
