When I was four or five, my father used to stand me up in the tub and wash only my genitals. He told me that girls especially had to wash down there. Another time when he was changing his clothes, he asked me if I wanted to touch him in his private place, just to see what it was like. At first I agreed because I was curious, but as he guided my hand, I became reluctant and he became insistent. I also vaguely recall him pushing a rectal thermometer into my vagina so deeply that it was painful. However, he never raped me and these things happened when I was very young.

Yes! These things were all definately inappropriate if they really happened the way you make them sound. I believe that it's ok for parents to wash their kids' private areas when they are young but the fact that he's let you touch him is WRONG and why the hell would you put a rectal thermometer in a vagina? Rectal thermometers go in the rectum!!! It doesn't matter if you were really young or not, it was still inappropriate.

This definitely falls under the category of sexual abuse. Your father sounds like he had some real problems, and the fact that you were so young makes it all worse, not better. Rectal thermometers were not meant to be used to hurt, and are never to be inserted into a child's vagina. It is not "normal" for a father to invite his little girl to touch him, nor to "guide" her to touch him. You are fortunate that he did not go further, but if you ever have a little girl, I would suggest that you never leave her alone with your father, as he may take it further this time. You might be wise to seek professional help to deal with these experiences as they are not and should not be a normal part of growing up.

Yes that would be considered sexual abuse. I believe any time you are violated against your will that is abuse. You were 4 or 5 it was your father thats horrible for you. I hope you can get some professional help. I dont know your age but I hope you can share this with another family member. He needs to be stopped. If he did this to you im sure he has done it to others.

Yes, sexual abuse, definitely. Weird, but still sexual abuse.
Any touching which makes you feel uncomfortable or dirty is abuse. The thermometer thing is especially abuse.
A lot of adults think that small children will not remember when they are older. They are very wrong.

The bathing is questionable, but typically would be done by your mom (or other female) by the age of 4 or 5, but I wouldn't consider it sexual abuse if all he was doing is bathing you...kids that little typically cannot bathe themselves well enough...

However forcing you to touch his penis, and a thermometer in your vagina are definite no-nos and yeah, I'd consider those both totally inappropriate and sexually abusive...

Yes, anytime a person touches another person like you have described, especially a child because they don't know right a right and wrong. Children are so trusting they think the adult is doing the right thing.

Yes. I'm sorry for what you had to go through as a child. It was wrong of your father to do that to you. Even though he is your father, you should still report him so that it may never happen again. What is the world coming to these days?

Why is it coming up now after, I assume, many years? Is it interfering with your current life? If not, forget about it and don't waste your time thinking more about this. If you need to get counseling, DO NOT get one who wants to explore and revivify these incidents. Get someone who is not hysterical and wanting to expand on your experiences, Nobody benefits from seeing themselves as victims, and your recollections are of minor incidents compared to what I frequently see.

You were sexually molested. Your father is a sick man and if he did this to you he probably did it to others. If he's still alive you should report this abuse to the police because this is unacceptable and he should be punished. It's never too late to make him pay for it.
