No the election is not until 2008...

But in actuality people ARE running.... do not be fooled. Candidates are positioning, planning, collecting money and making deals as of this moment.

Rudy Giuliani, John McCAin, George Allen and Bill Frist have ambitions for Republicans and are in best positions at the moment.

Bill Clinton's wife Hillary leads democrats, having a huge War Chest of funds. John Kerry may have blown it but still has millions in his coffer, besides being able to fund much personally.
Multi-Billionairre George Souros of MoveOn.org --- though not a candidate can throw massive resources to the democrats and influence strongly who he finally supports.

Believe me people ARE running.

Hardly anyone is running yet. The first primaries and caucuses are more than a year away. And people being talked about now as possible candidates may end up dropping out of the race before any caucus or primary.

Recently, a California Republican announced that he will run for President. His name is Duncan Hunter. Other people often mentioned as possible candidates are: Senator Bill Frist, Republican of Tennessee; Senator John McCain, Republican of Arizona; former Mayor Rudy Guiliani, Republican of New York City; Senator George Allen, Republican of Virginia (if he survives his re-election this year); Senator Hillary Clinton, Democrat of New York; Senator Russ Feingold, Democrat of Wisconsin; Governor Tom Vilsack, Democrat of Iowa.

I can't think of any others right now.

It's still a little early. My guess right now is that Clinton & Obama are in for the Dems, I'm sure there will be others. Gore, Kerry & Edwards may try.
McClain, Romney & Guliani are sure acting like candidates on the Rep side. Otheres will throw their hats in soon.

The next presidential election will not take place until 2008. Currently only mid-term congressional elections and a handful of gubernatorial elections are taking place.

It's anyone's guess.. I would like to see Edwards run again, I think he's honest.. The republicans would even elect daffy duck, if he said he was for the war.
