Never. It's the principle. It's tradition and it isn't a bad one. The only exception is for royalty (legitimate royalty, not princesses).

I kept my last name. I just like mine. Although I used to work in a bank and some women would cash checks that were in their married name, but the driver's license would be in their maiden name and they would say that they are waiting to see if it works out before they take the husbands last name!!

Would you change your name to hers?
There are many reasons why a woman may not want to change her name, and some of them are pretty good. I would marry the girl if I loved her and she was a good catch. Changing the name is really a minor issue.

The question I would have is the last name of the kids. The kids would have to have my last name.

I don't like hyphenated names either, but I don't think that whether she takes the man's name is worth fighting over. If you think taking your name has anything to do with whether she loves your or is ashamed of you or is disrespecting you, I can't say that's the right way to think about it. If a man really loves his wife it won't matter what her name is.

Will she be or will she not be (your) wife?I can understand if she was married and wanted to keep his last name. But if it is her maiden name, there is nothing wrong with that.
