I think everybody's just a little insane. Insanity's sort of on the dimmer switch. There's the kid who washes his hands 42,000 times a day, and there's the guy walking down the street who thinks that he is a duck and also an elementary school principal, when really he just wandered away during rec time. And then there's you, maybe you have a weird habit, like making sure everything's symmetrical, or maybe you really really like salad dressing and american cheese sandwiches.
I think writing good songs has a lot to do with writing ability. Look at Frank Zappa, for example. Insane, but his words make no sense.

Come on, sinatra and tupac were on drugs. Most of the people credited with being great song writers were probably on drugs of some form in their prime. But as for being insane, i don't think that has anything to do with it. You need to be creative, but insanity will only lead you to writing one form of song. The best songwriters extend their talents across all areas. Theres definately great songwriters out there who are on nothing and still write brilliant songs.

No. You do not have to be insane just to write good songs. Look at other artists; some of them write their own songs and they do not seem to be insane. Even I write my own songs, and I am completely sane.

No, you just need an ounce of brain power, which most artists don't have anymore, so we're stuck with sucky songs that are all written by the same person. What has this world come to....

no..that's completely not true...You jsut have to write a song that comes from your heart. You may think it's good but some people may don't. But yoyu never know..some day you'll become famous
