It should part of your classes. You should ask your counselor for advise. I didn't need it durring my classes, just before I did my clinicals.

Most nursing schools require you to have your first aid courses out of the way prior to clinicals. Just note that it's the American Heart Association's course that you must take (NOT the American Red Cross). This is good because it lasts for 2 years instead of just 1. I agree that you will not have enough time in nursing school to get your first aid course, but I think you will need it prior to your clinical experience. Besides, if nursing is something you want to do, don't you want the knowledge to save someone's life.

If you didn't need a proof of completion in order to successfully complete the nursing program as far as the board of nursing is concerned, the importantce would be none. You can get first a first aid book that will teach you everything you need to know in a day. However, check with the state board, b/c at least in my state, that has to be completed in order to graduate the program and apply for licensure.

First Aid does not begin to compare to Nursing school. It will not really help in the long run. They will tell you what the pre requisites are, first aid is not one of them.

I would think that it would be very helpful and would look great on a resume. It isn't required at most places but is a very good idea. It would be an intelligent choice to forgo this.
