My sisters baby was born 1 month premature. He is now 2 months. He is already holding his head up on his own when we put him on our shoulders or pull him up gently by his arms. Is that early? Also, he is becoming very fussy, having a hard time sleeping, sucking on his hand a lot, and sometimes he refuses to eat. Could this be early signs of teething?

My sons held their heads up within days of being born. My 3rd son was a preemie and he did the same thing. I dont know about the refusing to eat part. Could be signs. But they can go through this for several months before actually getting their teeth. Mine all had signs of teething for a few months before.

That can be early for a preemie..but my sons were holding there heads up within days, my 3rd managed to hold it up quite well the day after birth. It depends on the child.
A friend had 2 sons and both were rolling over by 2 months!

Could be signs of teething, yes. Get some teething medicine if he seems to be in pain or discomfort. Also, it's great that he's advancing so well being born early. My son, too, was holding his head up quite early, only he was full term.

You can't really say if it's early because any book that shows and states the stages of a baby's development rate after birth are only theoretically. People develope at different times, it's also true for babies. Like for instance, some babies learn to walk before they're a year old, but my neice didn't even crawl until after her first birthday.

I cannot answer all your questions but this is what I do know. My youngest daughter could stand up in her crib at 4 months. My son who was born 2 months premature is now on his high school baseball & football teams. Kid's just find a way to be there best, especially with strong parential support and tons of love. Good luck and, always be there for them. ps. My daughter's Pediatrician once said " I have never in my 30 years of being a child doctor, ever seen one (a child) starve themself to death.

Holding his head up would not be too much of a stretch. Teething this early is probably not happening. Sounds more like colic.
