It is a phrase that was very popular in the hippie cult days. It was the implication of ownership with out a outward sign of the establishment sanctioned marriage or girl friend. It was meant to be disrespect full of the social norms of the time, not of the individual in reference. It started out as a symbol of rebellion.
It has outlived its time. I think it is disrespectful to the significant other. I would much rather hear, "This is the love of my life, the Joy of my soul, my safe harbor in the storm," Than "This is my ol' lady"

This was a saying in the 70's back when I was a teenager.
I didn't like it then and I sure don't like it now that I am becoming an opinionated ole woman.
To me is shows true disrespect.
It was a slang term used largely by the biker crowd back in the 70's.

I personally do not care for it either. I think it shows no respect for the individual being implied. It is a reflection of the person saying it as being crude, insensitive, and talking in poor taste. I am not impressed by these folks that think that's cute or just ok. It's not in my book. I agree with you!

I does not bother me at all. My folks are from down south (GA) and everyone referrs to their other that way. I have found that old does not mean old when its said this way. Its just a figure of speech.

I absolutely love it when my husband calls me his old lady!! It makes me feel special and loved and wanted. My husband loves it when I call him my old man. He blushes and then he hugs me and kisses me. I am 33 years old and my husband is 64 years old. He loves to tease me also by calling me that
