What rank was Benedict Arnold given in the British Army?

He was a "British Provincial brigadier general"--a show officer of no real rank, nor was he trusted to command troops. So he got the pay and pension, but not the prestige or trust, for obvious reasons. Pity, it all seemed to start with the stupid General Gates, whose bacon Arnold saved when Arnold disobeyed orders.
