A death certificate is issued for a stillborn infant, right? (if someone knows with authority the answer is no, please confirm). If so, is there a gestion limit or cut-off when it is too early for this to happen?

Please no intentionally stupid or insensative answers, this is a very delicate matter.

It depends on your state. I know a couple years back there was a bill signed into law in Florida prohibiting this. Parents were being issued death certificates and had never been given birth certificates. I live in Missouri and they practice here that a death certificate is only issued if you request that one be issued.. (They are needed if you plan to have burial services for the child). Best place to check with is the hospitals legal department- they will know what specifics are true for your state.

A birth is considered "stillborn" once it is past 24 weeks gestation. Anything prior to that is considered miscarriage.

If you have suffered the loss of a child, you have my deepest most sincere sympathies.

depends on gestational age,and the state you live in. If it's past the age of viability, yes a death certificate is filed. The baby has to be named, and funeral or cremation arrangements too. If it's before the age of viability, no death certificate is filed.

If it's stillborn, usually just a death certificate, at least in my state. If it's born alive and dies minutes later, a birth certificate and a death certificate are filed.

Age of viability varies from state to state. Usually around 20 weeks.

I have seen a check box on the birth certificate that says born alive or stillborn, so I believe that a birthcertificate is filed...I believe the mother does it, but the hospital should know. If anything, it would be proof of a birth and perhaps a tax deduction

As working in a hospital, each state has different laws and each hospital has a code of conduct to follow, death certificates are usually released by a local corners office. (please contact the local hospital where the still birth happen, if happen in a residence then it can be a local corners office) there are so many gray areas to this issue, such as it being treated as a miscarriage if there was not breathing and etc after birth..

contact the hospital or contact the EMS, the people at the scene then call the local corner (I would call the local corner first)

Best wishes

yes.... There is no limit still born is still born.... Sorry for your loss...They issue it right away just as in any other death.... Don't mean to sound harsh.... You get the certificate in about 2-3 weeks or so after filing for it..... They issue is because a lot of people actually have funerals for the baby...... Once again sorry for your loss.....

I've never heard of a death certificate being issued for a stillborn infant.

Yes. Death certificates are not issued if the stillbirth was produced earlier than 20 weeks of pregnancy, in that case it is considered spontaneous abortion, and only a pathologic test is asked.

I don't know but it seems to me if they did issue death certificates for stillborn infants the infant would have had to be far enough along to be viable outside the womb if born prematurely. Otherwise the infant would have been considered a miscarriage. If this was you, please go and talk to someone about this as you may be in mourning.

you have to check the local legislature.
massachusetts resently had a bill before congress involving a 'birth that resulted in still birth certificate'. after 20 weeks; it said other paretns were just given a death certificate after 20 weeks.
