Grover Cleveland already did that, except he served 1 term, then ben harrison got elected, after that cleveland got elected again.

Also, even though being in office for 3 terms isn't allowed, if the country is in a state of war and an overwhelming majority of the people want him to keep running the country, it has happened.(FDR)

Good question. When we had our current "decider's" father he was the vice president so essentially her as vice president and then president. I would imagine that the constution would only allow for a person to be vice for 2 terms then president for 2 terms, so we could have the same administration. When the self proclamied "decider's" father became president he had been vice and then president so it was similiar to having the same person in office for multiple terms. Some people think that since our "decider" had made so many objections to the constution that he could declare maritial law since we are at war and take over as a dictator. That is the only way I know of that someone can become president for more than 2 terms. We will have to see what happens so people think that it could happen. This has happened in Germany where an elected president became a dictator. History is important to know because it can repeat itself. I never understood why we had to study it, but after I have been out of school for some time now I understand completely. American Government was a class I took seriously senior year. The rest of the class was goffing off. I got an award in that class for excellence. Every class every year had a person in every section get an excellence award and an acievement award. That was the only excellence award I ever got. The rest were achievement 2 of the other 4 years of high school. I am so glad I paid attention. I love the Constution and the way or founding fathers planned out our Country.

There are people who do not feel they are in different pollitical parties than the standard 2. One woman told me she was a rabid constutionalist. I understand it now.

Listen to Avis. I think you have your answer there.

Actually no one who has posted so far is exactly correct. The actually rule is a president may not serve more than 10 years.

This means if a president leaves office with less that 2 years left in his term, the vice president may serve the remainder of the presidents term and then run for 2 terms of his own.

Nope-- the constitution was amened to limit the term of president to 2 terms. Besides, the job of president is so stressful these days, I can't imagine anybody would really want to serve more than two. Just look at Clinton and Bush -- both clearly aged considerably while in office.

No. Once a president has served two full terms they are ineligible to serve again. It's two terms life time.

No, the 22nd amendment states that a president can only serve two terms. It doesnt matter whether it is consecutive or not.

The 22nd amendment was passed because of FDR.
