First devise a snappy name for the business. I suggest a cosmic space theme, you can call your business "The Cake Hole". This a freebie, you don't owe me anything for taking this name. Then get a nice A board sign, put it in the old front yard. Don't worry about whether your house is zoned commercial, forget about business licenses and sign ordinances. Just do it until some one makes you take it down. Put your name on the sign "The Cake Hole" with a big red arrow pointing towards your house. I can't see how this would not draw in the crowds. I could tell you more, but I would have to charge a private consulting fee.

A great way to network and advertise your business would be to join your local Chamber of Commerce. You are able to meet local business owners who can help you promote your business, and many chambers have newsletters and relocation packets that they can include your business information in. Good luck!

At work a woman who was starting her own cake business dropped off a small cake for us to try, now we use her for all our birthdays -- it may be worth it to visit some local offices and drop off some samples with business cards.

You can do it the traditional or online way.

Traditional method: send flyers, local classified ads, post your cakes at MRT stations, bus interchanges, etc.

Online method: setup a online store, upload your pictures, enable online payment (if you want). Promote your website through online magazines, ebay, yahoo, classified etc.

If you have a lot of variety of cakes, I suggest you use the online method to show pictures of your cakes and their prices.
