This story talks about the sweetness of apples that aren't perfect and explores the life and romance of one girl (at least) who is also not perfect or living within the norms of society at the time. I read it a long time ago and only have a vague memory of the details and would love to find it again. Thanks!

They're called "twisted apples" - the author is Sherwood Anderson, and the book of short stories is "Winesburg, Ohio." I read it in college 20 years ago, and the twisted apples analogy has always stuck with me.
