I live in the deep south (South Mississippi) and there are a lot of people who are somewhat arrogant...mostly people who have had "old money" or who's parents have, even though they just work regular jobs themselves...but every other place I have been, from the west coast east, has been similar. There are unfriendly and arrogant people everywhere, and for the most part, most southern people are not arrogant.

I was born, and raised in Oklahoma. When I worked for the City of Wichita, vehicle maintenance department,I found that working with a co worker who was from New York. was a very troubling ,and disturbing to experience for me.
Not only did I have a lot of trouble just trying to understand what she was saying, but she was very also very, arrogant, and rude towards me . She acted like she was the Queen Bee,and I was nothing, but trash.

I'm from New York and I find the people of the South, open, entertaining, warm, friendly and ready to give a helping hand.
Are you talking about the south Bronx maybe?

It derives from their unshakable belief that they possess absolute truth from a book written thousands of years ago by men who thought the world was flat and disease was caused by demons. The Bible Belt is a chauvinistic sewer.
