say you have four numbers arranged in the corner of a square, you add them once per second for ten seconds, what is the sum, if the numbers are 3, 2, 5, and 1

3+2+5+1=11 add them 10 times =11*10=110

So you add them ten times. Each of them? You're not being 100% clear. And what does the square have to do with any of this?
