We have a rabbit that lives in our yard and our neighbors...it seems to be a pet that got loose but noone is missing a rabbit. It lets us get kind of close, about 10 ft. away but we can't think of a way to catch it...although our neighbors do have a trap whatever we put in it doesn't seem to work. (lettuce, tomato, croutans...hahahaha) and (bread, peanut butter and honey.)

we had the same thing. there was a rabbit that was a beautiful black and white color that suddenly showed up in our backyard one day. i hang out in the backyard all the time and he grew very accustomed to me because i never tried to catch him knowing it wouldn't work they are very asmart and far too fast to catch, by force. so i started eating my lunch out there to see if he would come and try and get m to give him a bite. and sure enough one day he very cautiously slunk over next to me and i smiled and let him take a nibble off the lettuce in my sandwich. THEN one day i went inside after feeding him a little bit of tomato and HE FOLLOWED ME INSIDE WHEN I LEFT THE DOOR OPEN! i was so surprised! i nicknamed him 'Baby' because he acted like my little boy and followed me around. he would coem in the house after me all the time and i never even had to try and catch him! if u don't try to catch them they can become very trusting and loyal. just let him hang out. eat outside a lot. let him come up around u without paying too much attention to him. just let him know that u notice him then lt him do what he wants. DO NOT try and grab him by the scruff of the neck only if u do decide to try and catch him. they will try and kick and throw their legs out so far they snap their own neck it's really gross i have seen it happen on video. if u do ctach him grab the scruff of his neck point his front away from you and then curl ur hand up under his legs holding his ankles so he can't kick out and kill himself. but i would recomend just not trying to catch him just letting him hang out where ever he wants.

When you set the trap, put all of the food in the foot of an old pair of panty hose and tie it securely to the top of the trap instead of the bottom.
Place a fairly heavy board over the top to keep the rabbit from trying to take the bait through the top. . . it will also shelter the rabbit from the elements.
Rabbits don't seem to weigh enough to set the trap off so if it has to work at getting the bait,it will set off the trap.
Be sure to set the trap trigger real "hair wire". . .. . touchy so to speak so that it won't take much to trip it.
When you bait the trap, you might try some alfalfa or rabbit pellets instead of the things you have been trying.
Put some of the bait at the entrance of the cage so as to intice the rabbit but not so much that the rabbit will fill up on that food but will want to go in the trap to get the rest.
Once you catch it,watch out trying to take it out of the trap or you could get bit.
Take the animal and cage to the Animal Shelter as they will know what to do with it.

If you have never seen rabbits around your area before and if you don't live in a very woodland area it may be someone's pet. Try putting up signs or something so people know that you have seen it. Also look at its coloring. If it's shades of brown or other natural colors it's more likely to be a wild rabbit but if it has more brillant colors that do not look like they belong in nature it might be someone's pet. Wild rabbits are also very skiddish, we have some that come into our backyard and when we open our door they sprint away. Try just sitting on your lawn with some food and just wait for it to come to you. Rabbits are naturally curious and might come especially if it is domesticated and you have food (carrots work great). If nothing works please call animal control or someone who really knows what they're doing. It's getting very cold and rabbits should be indoors or else they can get sick. Also try going to http://www.rabbit.org/chapters/index.html where you can find a member of the House Rabbit Society in your area who may be able to help you. Good Luck!

Venison is dependable to consume so long as it hasn't spoiled. You can get trichinosis from consuming wild hog if you do not cook dinner it good adequate. There is a sickness that's natural in wild rabbits and that's tularemia. You can trap it by way of cleansing the rabbit in case you have a reduce or sore to your hand and by way of consuming the beef. It is alleged that in case you wait till after the primary "tough" freeze that you're going to be OK with rabbits considering the fact that all the inflamed ones can have been killed by way of the freeze (I do not know approximately the freeze stuff however I've heard it plenty.) Field dressing a deer is a enormous mess. You don't seem to be a wuss for dressed in gloves. I put on the gloves that move all of the strategy to my shoulders. After you get again to in which you're staying have your searching associate appear at your whole dermis for ticks and do the equal for him. Lime sickness isn't a a laugh factor.

If you catch an adult wild rabbit and try to keep it then it will die from stress. If the rabbit seems to be healthy then there is no reason to catch it, just let it be. A rabbit is very unlikely to enter a trap as they are naturally cautious of such things and it has plenty to eat all around it.

I have had luck with moth balls but if you have children or pets its not a good idea.
Here are 2 sites for tips on traps and baiting.
I have also had luck with the metal traps by putting some evergreen branches on the bottom so they dont feel the metal.
