I always wear my helmet AND full gear whether there is a law or not. Motorcycling is always going to involve a level of risk, and it's up to each rider to decide how much they are willing to accept.
The problem with people dying is that the ones they hurt are the people that care for them. If you die in a stupid crash BECAUSE you weren't wearing a helmet, your parents, siblings, children, spouse and friends all suffer. There is no way in modern society that anyone can claim they are hurting NO ONE when they die!
I believe the difference is that I'll survive a crash instead of becoming a smear. I was happy to literally walk away from totaling my first bike earlier this year with only two superficial injuries. I love riding so much, that I'd rather live through a crash so I can keep riding!

I'm an engineer / customer support guy, and I always wear a helmet when I ride. I would wear it even if there weren't any helmet laws - I also wear a lot of protective gear that the law doesn't require, like steel toed boots and a protective jacket even in the hottest weather. Better safe than sorry!

If it were mandatory I would wear one only because I couldn't afford all the tickets I'd get if I didn't. I'd also be actively involved in trying to repeal the law. I am fortunate to live in a state that allows adults to make the choice to wear or not to wear a skid lid. I choose not to, but that's my choice. Laws should be about protecting people from the actions of others. My not wearing a helmet does not harm anyone. So what's the big deal if I don't wear one?

I don't ride a motorcycle, but I do wear a helmet when I ride my mt bike. If I can injure myself on a trail where the only vehicle is my bicycle, I can just imagine what it would be like if it were a gas-powered vehicle instead of a Snickers-powered one. Would I abide by helmet laws? I voluntarily wear a helmet so the difference would be immaterial.

Yes, we have a mandatory helmet law here and I do wear the helmet as the fine isn't worth not wearing it. However, when we travel in states that allow riders to go without a helmet it comes off. When in Maine do as the mainiacs do!!

There is no helmet law in NH - unless you are under 18.
I exercise my right to choose. And I mean exercise, because sometime I choose to, and sometimes I choose NOT to.
I do wear one where the law calls for it. I also always remember the little girl and her dad who were killed when they pulled over before entering a state with a helmet law.(Massachusetts)
My name IS Firecracker. As my radio handle I have been called that for decades, making it interchangeable with my "first personal". I have been many things in the past, but am currently a Millwright.

That law is in Canada now. I suppose it's like a seat belt . Once you get use to it , you do it out of habit. Also if you look at the stats it only makes sense to wear one . Just because the law doesn't make people wear them , it doesn't say you can't. Besides, there are other advantages than in an accident. Bugs, wind, stones, and some are also great looking. So I would have to say YES.

Gov Bush signed a law increasing personal freedom and giving adult riders the choice of wearing a helmet.
I always wear one but am against helmet laws or any other impingment on personal liberty for adults.

There is in NC. I do abide by it, but even if it weren't the law I would still wear it. Every time I throw a leg over a bike, on road or off, I've got protective equipment on.
