Born on April 28, 1937 town of Takrit
He was reared alone by his mother Subha, until she took a second husband, Ibrahim Hassan. Hassan, often said to have been brutal and a thief, was a sheepherder by profession and enlisted Saddam in his ventures.His step father abused Saddam and sent him to steal chicken and sheep to be sold. This pattern continued until 1947 when, at the age of ten, he was allowed to move in with his mother's brother, Khayrallah Tulfah, in Baghdad.
Dictator of Iraq from 1979 until 2003, when his regime was overthrown by a United States-led invasion. In 2005 he went on trial in Iraq for the 1982 deaths of over 140 men in the town of Dujail He even had his own brother in law killed. He was convicted in 2006 and sentenced on 5 November to death by hanging. Appeals of the execution are pending. Once they uphold the conviction they have 30 days to carry out execution.
