Some people misinterpret everything and make up their own versions of things. And as it goes from one person to the next everyone adds something to the story and by the time it comes back around it's a completely different story with no truth.

Gossip is, inherently, nonfactual. Therefore, they don't twist it. Also, remember the telephone game in elementary school: On one end was "My favorite color is blue." On the other was "A maverick's taller than Spoon." Words change slightly during transfer; this happens so much that the real words are completely lost.

Sometimes fiction is more interesting than fact! (and if most can condemn they feel they elevate them self, they resort back to primitive animal nature wanting to be the lead pac animal....O>K>, I was off on one of my tantrems but hope this answers the question somehow)

they think it's fun, they're trying to get revenge on someone.. maybe it's just their personality to overexagerate (i know i didn't spell that right) and "stretch the truth"
