To find the inverse of just about any function, swap the X and Y then solve for Y.

So you start with X = 7Y+42
-7Y + X = 42
-7Y = -X + 42
Y = x/7 - 6

f(x) = 7x + 42

x = 7(f(x)^-1) + 42
x - 42 = 7(f(x)^-1)
f(x)^-1 = (1/7)x - 6

ANS :

f(x)^-1 = (1/7)x - 6
