Depending on state. Mine is never bypass anything if newer than 1974.

Basically this, the car has to function to the specifications and laws it was made under. If it came with fuel injection, that's what it has to have. If it came with a smog pump and cat then that's what it needs. Some states are more loose than others and will let you get away with more.

Really in america can you get away with poluting if you have an old car? That's terrible! In the UK if your car fails an emission test VOSA wont allow it on the road regardless of age!
At the end of the day if it polutes it shouldn't be on the road... why try to look for way round the law (the law's there for a reason)

I may be wrong but i think it's 1975 and up. That's when they came out with the unleaded gas and everyone had to re tune there older cars to run off the new gas.

It can depend on state regulations for inspection. Otherwise, 1974 or older.
