We develop friends, we don't ask someone to "be our friend." Get to know people, find out their likes and dislikes. Discover, by talking to them, if you have common interests. Ask what hobbies they have, how they spend their free time. What do they like to eat. How many brothers and sisters do they have. Were they born in the city where they're now living. What school do they attend, what is their favorite and least favorite subjects in school.

The more questions you ask the more you will discover about someone.

Make a list of questions that you want someone to answer. You may decide you don't want a certain person as your friend. Good luck.
