If you think that "Fire Fox, will protect you 100% from a virus or spyware, you are dreaming. Fire Fox is not security it is a browser.
Get yourself a firewall, with "Fire Fox", or Microsoft platforms.
Firewall protect you from rogue ports that attempt to enter your pc without your knowledge. And protect what is allowed to leave your own pc. Thus you have two way firewall protection.
http://www.zonealarm.com This is an excellent free for home use version that you can download. You will get two way protection, updates daily if there are any an all new versions free on an automatic basis.

Actually, both of them ARE decent freeware.
But FireFox is a browser, and a firewall is a different concept all together.
I suggest getting Zone Alarm if you want a good, save, effective free fire wall.

Why not use both? You do know a firewall is not a web browser and a web browser is not a firewall, right?
