The U.N. is of course a deeply-flawed organization. Most so-called countries nowadays are simple gangster dictatorships. So getting the representative and the governments of most such countries to agree on any regulations that can really help "give more rights to individuals" has been difficult. This policy would help countries avoid the need for wars, which are always started by poorer countries against the richer. The UN has tried to help the desperate, with handouts and peacekeeping troops, etc.; but all they've done economically is make sure more children survive, in countries whose basic problem is and overpopulation of citizens who completely lack human rights.
So the answer to your important question I suggest, sadly enough, is "Only a little."

Democrats and Republicans are at FAULT for using it to go with their agendas.

I don't think the U.N. is indirectly furthering world peace by keeping larger, more powerful nations from gaining too much power by taking over smaller, weaker nations, which in turn, prevents war from breaking out.

after world war II they were a huge help. there have been around 7 nobel peace prizes awarded to members of the UN since WWII.
Ralph Bunche a black american diplomat helped negotiate the truce between israel egypt, lebanon, palestine, jordan (the one where egypt got the sinai peninsula and removed them from that whole conflict).
without the UN the middle east would be in war. america would truly be an imperialist power. africa would be overun with aids. child labor and sweatshops would be employing hundreds of millions of people in south east asia.
things are not great not, but they could easily be worse and the un is the only assemblage of a world negotiating table.

I have no idea. I don't think I have ever heard the truth about everything they do. I haven't researched the U.N. much. I just can't trust what I hear on my show.

Yes I do. They have countries working together to make decisions, and problem countries afraid to take action for fear of a united reprisal in lieu ao just one countries reprisals. It is time for the world to unite and prepare for whats to be encountered in space.
