I was thinking, why do we kiss each other? Who was the first to try?

What a great question,,and I have a thought,,abstract or not.

Assume for a moment that it's a Prehistoric gesture, but maybe not at all begun as a loving expression of emotion. A male had just brought home a Beast to Roast, and his mate enjoyed the sharing as they ate.

During the meal, or soon after, the Male or Female spied a piece of the Roast Beast clinging to the lips of the other, and in an attempt to actually grab it and savor that final morsel,,, the first kiss was created,,,Smiles.

It could be that after the fact, they agreed that the touching of lips was at least as pleasurable as the taste of Roast Beast, and began experimenting, just for the enjoyment of the mutual touch?

Certainly as our species has evolved a kiss has more than one meaning, and multiple ways of enjoying that very personal,,, or sometimes casual connection. Beyond that, LOVE isn't strictly defined by a kiss, or how well one kisses, or how often.

Why,,,, is cuz it's become a Universal way to express,,, in one way, at least, the fact that we "care" for someone, whether of not it's a kiss on the lips, or cheek, or forehead, it helps define the connection in degrees.

There are a couple of legends on the matter.
There is one that a mother cave woman puked food into her child's mouth and people saw what she was doing and all mothers started doing it.
It was passed on from generation to generation. And now is a sign of greater affection.
But I like the other legend of the face to face con-tact when love making, that finally one day lead to the lips touching instead of the entire face.
I believe there's actually a study devoted to kissing its called Philematology, I believe.

The kiss is probably a hold over from licking. It became a romantic gesture when the concept of spirit became equated with breath. A kiss is the symbolic exchange of spirits.

In the most ancient tradition of my people, which is the oldest remembered tradition on Earth, the first kiss was given by a beautiful young goddess, Isis, to her beloved, Osiris, as he lay dead on his burial sarcophagus. No one had ever kissed before then, but she was so moved by having to say farewell to him that she kissed him and he came back to life. This is the magic of love.

Well, it tends to spread germs. Perhaps kissing is part of our cultural evolution as a means to spread minor doses of common diseases, strengthening our immune systems. Perhaps we'd have died out in some prior plague without kissing.
