What's the average score on the new SAT? And what's a good score? I got a 16 something. How good or bad is that?

The total new SAT score is a 2400.

So if you got 650s on all sections you would have a 1950.

An "Ivy league" score is generally in the 2100+ range, but they will accept people in the 2000+ range.

If you want to know what you would have gotten on the old SAT just add your math and reading score. Take out the writing section.

I don't know what you mean by 16 something. You mean 1600 range? So that could potentially mean you got a variety of scores. I would have to tell you that unless your GPA is a 4.0 and that you are underprivledged and a lot of other things, that you would have a difficult time of getting into any really competative school, but it's not a score that would keep you from going to college.

the average for the critical reading, writing and math sections are all roughly around 500. So a total score of 1600 means you are better than average, but not in the top group. On your SAT report it should tell you what you percentage is -- like, if it says 67% that means you scored better on that section than 67% of the kids who took the test the day you took it.

If you have good solid grades and some extracurricular activities in school, the SAT will not be that important. If you think you can do better, you can take the SAT again. Most schools will take the highest score you get on each section and add them up.
