Shouldn't it just be a day to spend with friends and family? Why should people go broke buying all these gifts? I wouldn't mind if I didn't get any presents. Anyone agree?

I think people should stop over buying gifts. Some take the holiday to the extreme!

I don't think we have to stop buying presents. But we should stop making it just about the presents or the price of them. We should all give more from our hearts than our wallets. Gift giving is one of the five love languages, so it is not a bad thing. People just feel the need to 'out do' so they 'over do'.
Gods' present to the world was His Son Jesus, Who gave His entire Life. That is what the gifts are supposed to represent. A gift of love. It is our own bad that we have made it something else.

A Blessed Christmas to all!!!

I think that Christmas is mainly for the children, so I only buy for my children. I also buy for my neices and nephews but only till they are 18. I never buy for the adults. Santa only brings one present for the children. I do not go crazy with presents as they always want something better the year after. I never ask for presents, and I dont get any either. I also tend to buy my presents during sales in the year. I have been ready for Christmas for 3 months already. Now all I want is for it to hurry up.

No. I want a lot of presents. And if you want, I have a list of things I would like to receive.

ummmm, just kidding. People go overboard. That's for sure. The gift thing is fun if it doesn't get out of hand. It can put a lot of financial pressure on some people, too.

I agree with you totally! I buy something for under $5 for my adult daughters and spouses and spend a dollar or two on the grandkids cause I have 14. I used to go all out and it wasn't working out as I am on a limited budget. I feel we actually honor Christmas for the day it is.

The whole thing of the gifts (i think/hope) got started because of the GIVING...not receiving...but it has gotten turned around. I think we need to look at what we have done to the holidays....but I don't think we should do away with presents.

I think we should focus on the true meaning of Christmas. I find the Christmas decorations up before Halloween to be overly commercialized and demeaning to the spirit of the holiday.
That having been said, I think it is OK to exchange gifts, without going overboard. I treasure the smiles of my family, especially our child, as they open carefully chosen and wrapped gifts. :-)

Hallelujah! I get so stressed at Christmas trying to figure out what to buy people and trying to compete with my husband on who can spend the most. He always conveniently drops how much he just spent on me, and makes me feel like I better have something just as equal for him. and people wonder why I turn into such a GRINCH..
