993 is the last of the air-cooled models...
Great shape.
Can't blame you about the 996 - nothing cool about it... which is why they came back with the 997 - and the smiley face...
I don't know your budget -- but if you can go new - do so. They have made quite a few advances making it worthwhile.
If you are a tiptronic person - then again - the newer model. The last tiptronic 993 was in 1998 - and was only a 4-speed. The 5-speed really, really makes a difference.
Good luck.

The 996 bodystyle was and still is Porsche's best selling 911! All those buyers couldn't be wrong. The majority of them were previous 993 Porsche owner's upgrading their model. The 996 clearly outsold the 993 style by a huge margin! When considering looks & style... The 996 resembles the 997 alot more than the 993. Many folks on the street won't be able to readily tell between the 996 or 997, but 993 clearly dates itself as being an older model. Porche is one of the few manufacture's that only makes changes to their models as major engineering developments become available. The 993 although a very nice porsche was not as reliable, specially with the late model 996's. If saving a few bucks is not a concern then go with the 997!

i think you're asking what's the version between a Targa and a Coupe. A Targa would properly be a Carrera. Carrera became yet another call for a 911. The Carrera got here/is presented in 3 diverse types, Coupe, Targa, and Cabriolet. Targa's have a detachable roof panel have a diverse roof line once you seem at it from the realm or from the front/returned. The Targa has a great roll-bar or band that starts off at the back of the door and loops over the perfect the place that's flatter than the Coupe. The rear window wraps around to shape the physique no longer in easy terms like the Coupe which has "C" pillars. Later (996) Targa's replaced to a sliding glass roof panel and the form became no longer lots diverse than the Coupe. The roof panel became made out of Folding Magnesium individuals with countless layers of fabric, aluminum inserts and a vinyl upholstery on the outer layer.

The 993 is now becoming worth more than the equivelent 996. Plus i like the look of the round light 993 to the 996.

I would say that you should go with the 993 because they are older and harder to find. Later in life they will be worth a lot of money,

I'd be very tempted to look at the Cayman, and then have a look at the tuning packages on offer from RUF. They're Porsche approved and can push the cayman into, and beyond, 997 pace.
