my ibm thinkpad r32 used to work but there was some sort of power problem with the power cord and now will not charge, turn on or anything...when the problem happened it made some crazy beeps and a weird smell.... anyone with similar experience please help me

is there any way it hurt the motherboard possibly?

G'day,

I would suggest to bring your IBM & the charger to a local electrical store and ask for a generic/compatible charger. Plug it in and see if you can start the unit.

If the unit starts, then you can say your thank you prayer and purchase the new charger.
If it does not starts, then make an excuse to the salesperson for not buying the new charger, go home and contact IBM support to fix your laptop, since it is very obvious that the electrical discharge has fried your motherboard as well.

I have similar capacity subject matters with my T21. It switches off by technique of itself after a couple of minutes. It has befell so typically now that now that is going to not boot. My show is high quality although. It sounds like your decrease back lights has died. i don't think of it really is financially practicable to have it repaired. My T21 is a P3 800. i became taking under consideration repairing mine because I have 2 docking stations and spare drives. sounds like you need a new power cord... mine did the melt thing too!
