Whilst I understand that somethings are just plain offensive (e.g. I despise the 'N' word to describe black people) I think some people are just too easily offended and get precious when it comes to things like sexism. Example - a woman always wears short skirts and skimpy tops and wonders why she gets whistled at or have people make lurid comments to her. Is this Sexism or any other kind of -ism you can think of? Or, a woman and a man both go for the same job and the man gets it. Is the company being sexist with their choice of employee, or do you think the woman should get the job just because she's a woman? These are very generalised examples I know but I'm just curious. What I'm trying to get at is that I think there are too many -ISMS to be wary of nowadays and it's an impaiment on our sincerity. People can't really say what they mean anymore. Do you agree?

I think that in some cases it has gone way to far. One thing that really annoys me is when it becomes inverted. Example; in the UK there was a drive to stop black boards in schools being called 'black' boards, in case it offended black people. Why would it? They're black & they're boards; whats the problem? Black friends of mine where either confused or amused by this nonsense. We all tried to see the point of it, but none of us could get our heads that far up our own arses.

I don't agree.

Example: a man wears just shorts and walks by a construction site; does he get whistled at? no. So, if it happens to a woman it is sexism. She is being treated like an object instead of a person. If she is offended, then it is her choice.

Basically, if you treat others with respect and consideration, then most of the problems you cite would not happen. But, people do not treat each other well. Hence, more rules come into play because people act improperly.

Yes absolutely! Some terms could prove offensive to some but they've long been done away with. As for the rest ... It's just gone crazy, same thing as bananas that need to be straight, right/wrong size for tomatoes etc. Too many civil servants enjoy too high wages for doing nothing of value! Time they were told to go get a real job and earn their crust for a change!

I agree whole hearted. PC has gone overboard to the point there the first amendment in the US could be put under scrutiny. People may have freedom of speech, but with PC, we cannot offend.
Sadly, anything can be perceived as offencive to someone. So now we are in a sad state where we all need to live in a bubble, hoping not to offend.
I just live my life...and if all the PC lovers have issue with me...hey it's not my fault , let's " blame society". I'm just an unfortunate pawn of my environment....does that sound PC enough??

political correctness is generally for windbags. and there are plenty of them. the most important traits do not have anything to do with political correctness that i've seen so far. honesty, integrity, courteousness, just plain good manners. i may be wrong, and if i am, please correct me, but i think it was Patrick Henry that said "I may not agree with what you say, but I'll fight to the death your right to say it." this is no longer true in America. tody the slogan is "i'm offended because i'm a wemp--my rights are more important than your rights" -- did you know that the first civil rights workers chose the confederate flag to march behind and it's documented in news footage, yet now it's offensive. they were strong enough, smart enough and brave enough to say "we'll make this our flag". but not today. in a truely free country, you get to choose. schools for boys, schools for girls, schools for both. choose... places that allow smoking and places that don't allow smoking... choose. America and Americans should hold themselves to the highest code of Honor. no torturing prisoners, no world court... and put as much value on others constitutional rights as they do their own.

i'm! Stereotypes did no longer upward thrust up for no reason, and too frequently different people stay as much as them..yet nonetheless get 'indignant' every time somebody factors it out. incredibly, while you at the instant are not residing up on your stereotype, you have no longer any reason to be indignant. i think of all of it stems from the vanity circulation, the place all and sundry turns into too centred on thoughts rather of actuality. the different day I published a query with regard to the pass over u . s . pagent...and a white women people wrote in (no longer even remotely responding to my question) and replaced into all disillusioned that there have been no black women people interior the appropriate type. initially, while you at the instant are not black, you need to no longer be complaining. Secondly, she ought to have completely ignored the reality that 0.5 of the tutor consisted of speaking approximately final year's pass over u . s ....who got here approximately to be BLACK. additionally, if ninety 5% of the girls people who run interior the competition are white chicks, odds are a cracker is going to win. i myself hate while people attempt to drag the race card out of skinny air. in case you do no longer permit racism die, it by no skill will. i'm uninterested in all of the whining and desire people does no longer be so comfortable and upward thrust above it rather of crying like a three-year previous. I relatively have had to beat my own stereotypes, so if i can, i think of that any possible. (i replaced into born and raised in a pink-neck hick city, the place maximum young babies became mom and dad and dropped out of school. I chosen to artwork no longer hassle-free, get sturdy grades, get right into a sturdy college, get knowledgeable, and now I artwork for a wealth administration company exterior of NYC and help handle portfolios for shoppers between $5-$35 million in investible materials.)
