black pants, a black button down shirt, and a silver tie or a royal blue shirt and a silver tie. she seems like the girl who has everything so find out what she likes. since shes really into fashion, get her some cool books about fashion or some awesome black and white photos. you could put the photos in a bag with a disposable camera and a small photo album so she could take some of her own too. maybe inexpensive tickets to see one of her favorite bands at a small venue? or something with pictures. if she likes to travel, maybe some travel guides or even cookbooks that go with her favorite places. make it personal!! girls are into details. my now boyfriend bought me a cd of a band we had talked about way before we ever started dating and i thought it was so thoughtful. find out what she likes, music, color, place, sports, and go from there!

I'd go with black pants, not jeans, that fit nicely. A black long sleeve shirt, with either a traditonal collar or a bandless collar.
If a traditional collar, then add a great looking tie, any color but make it snazzy. Stripes are always appropriate but there are so many with prints that fit your personality. I love the ones with chile peppers, bottles of hot sauce, or a "themed" one for a cause.
It will show you are an individual and different from the rest of the guys. Make sure you wear shoes, not tennies, that are shined. Maybe a loafer. Also a nice leather belt in black or even a silver one. It depends on what your body type is and how you present yourself. Think "party" or high school homecoming dance. Not a tux, not even a suit. You could add a jacket but it's probably not neccessary.
If you look good, you'll feel good. Have a great time.
I like the idea of giving the birthday girl something different. Sounds like she can afford to buy whatever she likes and buys expensive clothes. Instead, give her a cd by her favorite artist, a DVD that she might like (maybe she'll invite you to watch it with her), a book on a subject she's interested in, or a gift certificate to where she can choose any of the above. Unless you're really good friends, perfume or jewelry might be too personal.

My god....what type of 16th is this?? Damn, here in oz were mostly happy if guest arrive with clothes (sometimes optional!) and a slab of beer....(yes....true aussie style!) I agree, nice black pants and nothing better than a nice crisp white shirt.
You don't want to go to over the top or to under so black pants and white shirt is always good if you have no idea. Pinstripe is also nice but white shirts are always a winner.
As for a present i would say panties!! ha ha
but you say it is a 16th and she is a friend so i'd agree with a gift certificate so she can buy what ever she wants.......
Apart from that maybe scented candles, but she could start a fire and burn the house down! Or bath salts, crystals, bath oil but it may give the impression you want to see her naked in a steamy hot bath with bubbles.....and hell, she's a girl, your a boy, why not!
Maybe go the gift certificate.........

black dress shoes, black pants (not jeans), and a long sleeve button up shirt... maybe white with black & gray stripes would look good.
a good gift for her would be a gift certificate to one of her favorite stores or if you guys are close some earrings or another type of accessory.

Black pants.. Black shoes.. a dressy top.. some nice cologne.. You could get her a silver bracelet from a jewellery shop, they dont cost too much, then take it to someone and get her name engraved on it. That would be really nice!
