A new low... why, because they don't subscribe to your type of politics? NASCAR is NOT a political entity, it is an entertainment outlet. If you can't handle the fact Brian Vickers got a shotgun for winning the pole, then don't watch. By the way, it is Texas Motor Speedway who awarded Vickers the shotgun, not NASCAR. There are far more serious issues to tackle than what a race track gives the pole winner.

I only think its "sick" if you mean that as in "cool." I'm a firearms collector and would love to win a free weapon like that. At least he accomplished something to get it. If he'd been given a lawn mower, you wouldn't have batted an eyelash. Think of all the things that are given to a US President when they take office. Colt always sends a personalized firearm to the incoming President as a gift. Yet you aren't bringing that up. (By the way, that's non-political...they give them to Democrats, Republicans, and any other politician that manages to occupy the Oval Office). And as someone pointed out, a lot of the NASCAR racers are also into hunting. If they're into it, they'll appreciate it. If they're not, they'll either give it to someone or sell it. And if they're really against it, look on the bright side, they'll probably melt it down and turn it into a plowshare, thereby reducing the number of firearms in the world by one.

I don't think it is sick at all. If you saw the end of the race today, you would have seen Tony Stewart with a set of pistols in VL. At different tracks, the pole sitter and the race winner both often receive some sort of prize. At TMS, the prize happens to be guns as the pole sitter wins a shot gun and the race winner receives a set of pistols.

Is he a poor shot? NASCAR is a "sport" loved by many but was invented in the South. Every good country boy owns a shotgun by the time he is 10 and knows how to use it. There is a reason for that. Hunting is a sport, just like NASCAR is a sport. People have to eat. Too many times animal huggers do not get the privelege of seeing overpopulated animals starve to death. Hunting is a management practice that keeps the animal populations in balance.
Might be different is they gave him and elephant gun and trip to Africa!!!
Got a shotgun, rifle and a four wheel drive (NOT a SUV) and a country boy can survive.
Vegetarian, and old indian word meaning poor hunter!

No new low. This gun is a special made collectors item for display and not for use as a weapon.Several tracks have "gimick"awards for pole winners and the race winners. So no it is not a new low.
And as a parent you let the child know that it is an award/trophy
and not a weapon. Most children will understand this.

Don't be dumb. Shotguns are for hunting and that is a very popular sport among their fanbase.
It's teaching kids that they can go hunting too.
Perhaps you're not cut out to watch NASCAR.

Why don't you put this 'Q' on the "I'm a ANTI GUN TREE HUGGING LIBERAL @SSHOLE" category. THIS IS THE U.S.A. , we have a CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT TO KEEP AND BEAR ARMS. DON'T LIKE IT ? MOVE TO CANADA.
