I believe thay can do that. The sewer main on my street is on the other side of the street, so my sewer line, like yours, runs under the street. My plumber told me that if I had trouble with the sewer line, I would have to pay for the street to be dug up and repaired.

I have not had to do that yet.

Sorry to bring the bad news.

Call your local office for Public Works and ask them. Perhaps asking a local contractor that installs sewer lines would know this?

Better find out quickly because the Port-O-John is getting full.

Call an attorney Pal and, right now. I do believe it's your problem to the street, then they take over. It's this way with most city and towns. They're trying to pull something on you or they don't know themselves. Get the lawyer.

Cities are responsible to the property line. 1' from back of sidewalk to the house is yours. That is why you pay taxes, for the municipality to maintain their infrastructure. Good luck

Every city has different regulations. My city tried to do the under
the street thing with us but every one screamed so loud, they backed off. Sounds like you may responsible for the whole cost.

you are responsible from your home to the main in the street. the city is responsible for the main itself. that is what part of your propery taxes go to. Get together with other residence and fight the city.
