all settlers were british, britain claimed the new land, eventually taxes got to high, with inflammation and all, so they started rebeling, britain was not about to let its new colony go, so they sent ships (note britain was most powerful in world at the time ). and they tried to control it, but eventually, somebody shot a british soldier, and they got pissed, and started killing everybody.

Well, human instinct always tells to preserve oneself and to do that is to live peacefully without being controlled/restrained by foreigners/other groups of people. A particular country colonized or dominated by outsiders or dominant people... the inhabitants of that country always clamor for peace and independence and
the recourse to do to attain that clamor is to start revolting hence
a revolutionary war happens.
