When they use them instead of their brains-ie copying word for word from them rather than finding info then putting it together to learn something- then NO!
If they are looking things up and absorbing all the knowledge they are finding then YES!

In my belief, yes they are beneficial.
However, students can make them not beneficial if they use it too musch.

When it comes to computers being beneficial, theres a thin line that divides the yes from no.
