The Ricco laws.
Origionally written to fight the Mafia. The law blatently violates the Constitution's search and seizure rules. It was felt the only way to defeat the Mafia was for the Government itself to violate the law. The Mafia fell because of turncoats in the Mafia rather than the Ricco laws but the laws stayed on the books despite being both unconstitutional and ineffective.
Instead of repealing the Ricco law it was next applied to Drug dealers in the war on drugs. Frequently land owners would lose thier property because a tennent unknown to the building's owner was dealing drugs. A more blatent example is cops soon went out on the streets to pretend to be drug dealers. When somebody would attempt to buy drugs from them the car they were driving would be confiscated and auctioned off. This happened whether or not the driver owned the vehicle or if the vehicle was being knowingly used for this purpose by the owner. In short it was grand theft on a massive scale by local government. A clear abuse of authority.
The law today applies to all "organized" crime. That is if 3 or more people are involved in a "crimanal" endeavor. So most crime today comes under the Ricco laws and some prosecuters have used it to garner large sums of money. Of which there is no accountability since it is not part of the budget there is no comtroller oversight. It just joins a slush fund which I suspect is often abused. Such a system invites fraud.

Everyone on Yahoo Answers was given the authority to report and moderate themselves through the report abuse feature. But people are now using it to stalk, harrass, and annoy others and get people, questions and answers removed that they don't like. Therefore they are abusing their power and authority on this site.
That is a specific answer, like what you asked for. Saying "George Bush" like what the others are saying would require you to be able to prove that he is abusing his power. Whereas we can plainly see what is going on in Yahoo.

Let us say a police officer were to enter you house without either a warrant or permission and with no untoward crime being observed; this would be an abuse of police authority.

I think:
A police men's stopping vehicles to find a date.
A judge using 'cons' for odd jobs at low salaries.
A parent reading your diary.
A postal clerk reading your mail.
A mortician selling bodies to science.
A Highway Administrator who buys up property where a new road is going to be.
Anyone who has an authority over what you are doing who uses it for their own advantage.

For instance your supervisor and you already know as supervisor you're supposed to still do so many hours of physical work, but you choose to do nothing because you feel you are the supervisor and you don't have to follow company policy! that's abuse of authority

federal land management agencies being taken over by radical environmentalists and then denying the use/access to the public lands by slanting the rules. Go look up the rules on access to public lands for such uses as mining.
