I may go with a goalie..............Ovechkin is a decent choice but Malkin may be the real deal. Sid the Kid?

I guess this is why I'm not a GM. :-)

At first I thought your question was who would you pick to be a GM and I would have to say Garth Snow---then fall down laughing!

An interesting question..

Assuming we mean all the players available right now, and we are talking for a real game, not fantasy league..

I would lean heavily on Ryan Miller as a consideration.. He is maturing into a top teir goalie, what he did at MSU was no fluke.. and he's been matured properly by Buffalo.. He will be a mainstain in nets, barring injury, for ten or more seasons.. He's very capable of winning 1-0 on any given night..

But, since offense wins games, but defense wins championships, I would take a blue liner first and I probabaly would take future hall of famer Nick Lidstrom with which to start my team.. I may lose out on a 50 goal scorer, but I could guarantee I could find two 30 goal scorers to replace him..

My fist choice would be Nick Lidstrom. Ovechkin would be a good second bet.

Definately Sidney Crosby. He is only 19 and is a very skilled player. Probably the best choice to build your franchise around.

Depends on what you want, if you want to sell tickets I say Crosby - Anywhere in canada and Ovechkin - in the states. (they can help you win games as well) If you want to win you have to pick a goalie first and that is a tough choice Kiprusoff, Luongo and Miller are all good choices.

A team only goes as far as their goalie so i would have to pick Ryan Miller or Cam Ward.
A good example of this, Olaf Kolzig. The Caps are nothing when he isnt in the lineup.

Ovechkin for sure. I met him this summer and he genuinely seems like a nice guy as well as a great player

Jaromir Jagr has simply been the best in the league the past 10 to 15 years can't go wrong with that. but all time Maurice "The Rocket" Richard.

and for a goalie well i would always go for Patrick Roy but hes retired, today Martin Brodeur has been the most consistent goalie in the league for well over 10 years and when you need that big win i wouldn't ask for anybody else.

GO HABS GO!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Well; if we are talking about yet-undrafted players, I would choose goalie Jonanthon Bernier of the QMJHL's Lewiston MAINEiacs. He just got another shutout last night against Cape Breton, so he is developing very nicely. When he's up in the show, you can say you heard it here first.
