Old wives' tale.

It has long been an "Old wives tale" that you would drown from muscle cramps if you went swimming before waiting 20 minutes." Many years ago it was believed that swimming immediately after eating would cause your muscles to cramp causing you to be immobile, thus drowning.

There is no evidence that swimming after eating will cause you to die but, it has always been a standard belief that you should wait at least 20 minutes after eating before any kind of physical exertion.
