Is it safe to take phillips stool softener while breastfeeding? They had given me some kind of stool softener in the hospital when I had her but I want to make sure before I take it.

They are totally safe to take, just make sure that you follow the directions on the label so you don't take too much. Stool softeners were the only way I survived the first couple of weeks after delivery because they put me on vicoden as well.

Yes. I was pumping breast milk for my son when he was in the hospital...he was almost 3 months early and on a feeding tube. I had to take stool softeners and they did not affect the milk at all. My doctor gave me some at the hospital.

Stool softeners and laxatives have a detrimetal effect on your system in the long run, so you might want to just change your diet to include natural ones (like prune juice and lots of fiber).

I took one as well after giving birth while breastfeeding...if you are regular and all is OK, I wouldn't take any medication if I didn't have to..they deem a lot of meds safe, but I think the less you put into your body the better. Congrats!

My doctor said they are NOT safe and gave me a different medication for hemeroids. I also have started to eat raisin bran for breakfast every day and cut way back on the amount of cheese i eat - that helps a lot.

Yes, they are safe if not used in excess. Make sure you are also eating a lot of fiber..or taking fiber supplements and drinking tons of water...If you continue to have problems you should check with your doctor to make sure there are no other problems.
