Sanitary pads are a lot more hygienic and safer than tampons, they also don't cause menstrual cramps as tampons do in their effect on vaginal health and interference with the cervix. Tampons prevent normal vaginal cleaning, give bacteria a place to multiply, leaves fibres within the body, absorb vaginal fluids, and allow for chemicals to be put into a major orifice of the body, thus why tampons are associated with so many health problems from bacterial vaginosis through to toxic shock syndrome and endometriosis.
Pads can also be more comfortable depending on what sort of pads you use, commercial pads like Always are not very comfortable because the synthetic materials stop air getting to your vulva making it sweaty and prone to rashes or infections like yeast infections, and those materials can also rub against your skin. Where as organic pads are more comfortable, and cloth pads, homemade pads and padded panties are exceptionally comfortable.
Pads are quicker to use because you don't have to mess about as much with wrapping up the used ones before throwing in the bin, they are also not as intimate which is something that a lot of less mature girls have issues with, but it means they don't require quite as much care.

Tampons are good as long as you dont leave them in too long and run the risk of getting TSS(toxic shock syndrome)
Pads are good because they are more absorbant than tampons and some are even deodarant The bad part of pads is that they sometimes feel like diapers The best kind of pads to get are Always with wings because they cover the whole area of your undies and just as absorbant as those cheaper bulky ones

Well with pads you don't have the risk of developing TSS Toxic Shock Syndrome. But really as long as you don't leave the tampon in for days you will not contract it. Pads are very uncomfortable like diapers but I guess it's different preferences for different girls

Hello.
Tampons are not bad for you. They can only be bad for you if you leave them in for too long. If you leave a tampon in for 8 hours or more, you could get Toxic Shock Syndrome(look it up on the web). This means you should change your tampon at least 2, 3, or even 4 times daily, depending upon how long you are up, and wear a pad at night. :)

I am 37 years old and have tried tampons many times but i absolutely hate them. I use pads and they are the thin ones so they don't feel like a diaper.

If you used to having a hectic paced life where you may forget to change your tampon every 4 hours like you should then it is not beneficial to use a tampon. Some women are more susceptible to toxic shock syndrome than others.

I have found that sometimes tampons hurt. Pads are a good backup if tampons fail.

When I have my period, it's so heavy that I need to use a tampon and pad! So, the pad is my main need just because the tampon will leak.

It's really just a personal preferance. I tend to switch back and forth. I typically start my period with a tampoon, the flow is heaver at the begining and they are easier to insert, as the days go buy I get a lighter flow, so I switch to a pad. I don't have to worry about changing it ever few hours, like a tampoon, and with a lighter flow, sometimes it can be a pain to get it inserted properly. Go with whatever feels best to you.

the only thing I can think of is less chance of toxic shock syndrome. But, if you change tampons often, that reduces the risk significantly.
I hate pads. They give me rashes.
