I need one for my trip to Goa as the police are cracking down apparantly - thing is i drive a scooter here on my Provisional with CBT , and want to hire a scooter or small cc motorbike out there - can i still get an International Driving License / Permit with that?
And is a IDL the same as an IDP which you can get at the Post Office??? Thanks!

You can get an INternational Driving Permit from the motoring organisations (AA, RAC) or the Post Office. Unfortunately you can only get one if you have a full driving licence. I would take your provisional with you to India and see how you get on!

I got one at the AAA (American Auto Assoc) - while I waited. You just need a passport-sized photo and your existing license and go to a AAA store (AAA members pay a discounted price). It is good for 1 year. If you are already in India - too late!
