Living in the U.S., I've grown tired of this government, and I am wondering about Canada's government. What is it like? Could it be compared to the U.S. government? I don't know much about it but would like to before I ever make plans to move there.

Erg...where to start. Politics in this country have always been a joke. Look at how long we kept Chretien on power...and then Martin and now Harper. I don't know that any Canadian really takes it all too seriously. It just gets more & more ridiculous every year. So in answer to your question, no it cannot be compared to the US government whatsoever. In the US, the government actually does things, for better or worse. Here, all they do is tend to make noise. No one really gives a rats *** anymore.

Well at least we don't have dumb *** politicians wasting time with putting resolutions to hang the ten commandments in the house of commons.

Our politicians keep moral and religious issues the hell out of the house of commons. They deal with practical issues rather than these private personal issues. When they try these smear type campaign Canadians tend to react negatively because we just don't do that sort of thing. Stick to the issues you waste of skin or you won't be elected. We don't care what the guy does in his private life (as long as he didn't break the law) we care about what he can do or did while acting out his job in office.

As justice minister, Pierre Trudeau was responsible for removing laws against homosexuality from the Criminal Code of Canada, famously remarking: "The view we take here is that there's no place for the state in the bedrooms of the nation." He became on of our either most loved or most hated Prime Minister of the modern age, depending on how Conservative you are. These are the type of politicians we vote for.

Canada has a parliamentary government, if you know anything about government you will note that while our government has only one problem, gridlock and deadlock, the parliamentary system does not have this problem, but the parliament has absolute power,(not true in Canada as the provinces have a great degree of power) and is susceptible to an irrational impulsive majority.

I don't agree with Mel. At least here in Canada government listens to people. We chose not to go to Iraq's war which I admire a lot.
We're very peaceful and I believe the reason that Canadians get along with each other so well and known to be very friendly, is government policies and programs to reduce crime, poverty and illiteracy.

We'd love to have you here.

Basically, Canada has a European-style parliamentary system with the real power residing in the elected prime minister and his cabinet. The senate is appointed by elected politicians and can only delay legislation.

I have lived in Canada for almost forty years, and can't even imagine living in the US, but sadly, we are being sold to corporate America. The British refer to their prime minister as Bush's poodle...well, I'm sorry to say, in Mr. Harper, our present prime minister, Bush has another poodle. By the way, this warmongering blind supporter of joint Bush/Zionist atrocities, also regards himself as Christian!
