Hello Im a New Zealand high school student who is looking to go on an exchange to Italy or Spain Next year! Please feel free to add me on msn if you would like to chat more about exchanges or fundraising. My msn is goldprincess89@hotmail.com!

Why dont you try hosting a MEGA garage sale? Normal garage sales generate a few hundred dollars ... If you explain that you want to go on an exchange then Im sure friends, family, teachers, teams, neighbours will be happy to help. You'll also be helping them get rid of items that they no longer use ;-) Advertise as much as you can! Stick up posters, advertise at the community centre in the local newspaper! Make sure to get your friends to help you man to garage sale as it will proberbly be busy!

You could also try selling boxes of fundraiser chocolates or sweets. Where you get a percentage of the profit in return for sales. Your parents can take boxes to work and you can take boxes to school. At my school people actually look for the students selling chocolate! ;-) So most of the work is done for you..!

There are the normal fundraisers .. e.g car wash, sausage sizzles ect... which you friends can help you with!

A part time job is also worth looking around for. If you walk around town you will proberbly see ALOT of vacany posters as Christmas is nearing ... If you don't want a traditional job there is always tutoring younger students or babysitting. Or.. a combination of babysitting and tutoring?

What are you skills and or talents? You can no doubt use these to your advantage? If you are good at art you could sell paintings? If you are a runner you could get people to sponser you to complete one of those fun run events.

Ask your teachers ect... about fundraising too! Im sure they will have some ideas to help you along the way!

CHRISTMAS IS COMMING! and this is a perfect money making oppurtunity. You could organise a christmas dance in the school hall? You could persuade the school to let you hire the hall free of charge ;-). You could make and sell unique Christmas cards and decorations! Bake special Christmas treats .. the options are endless.

I hope I've helped you! Don't give up on going on an exchange. Im sure you'll find the money somehow! Feel free to msn me!

Good luck!

I studied abroad in England for nine months as a part of the Rotary International Youth Exchange Program. I thought it was a great program - I would highly recommend it. The only cost I incurred were plane tickets there and back. My living expenses were paid by the families I lived with.

The Goethes Institute offers affordable immersion programs in Germany. You could do some research on this and try to save up for a couple of months. Also, if you attend an American university, you could talk to the international programs counselor and see what your options are.
