The respiratory system delivers oxygen from the air to the blood (circulatory system). Blood delivers the oxygen to tissues for use in energy production.

Both the circulatory system delivers oxygen oxygen to the tissue which is use to supply energy and the respiratory system delivers oxygen from the air to the blood. The pulmonary artery takes deoxygenated blood from the heart to the lungs and the pulmonary veins carry blood rich in oxygen from the lungs to the heart. In respiration enery is release from food by oxidation i.e by reacting it with oxygen. This is known as aerobic respiration.

Blood flows from the veins into superior vena cava as venous blood from body. It is then pumped through the left atrium, left ventricle, right atrium into the pulmonary system where carbon dioxide is exchanged for oxygen. The oxygenated blood is pumped via the left ventricle through the aorta and out into the arterial vessels of the body.
