Evangelicals unfortunately are a powerful voter block for the Republican Party, and their sheer size makes them a decisive factor in most elections. What is really sad, and even a bit comical about the entire scenario is that Republicans, after getting elected, don’t do much to promote the evangelical agenda. They merely pay lip service to Christian principals during election time, and then the very people they elect betray them. And yet, every election, without fail, the same cycle repeats of evangelicals overwhelmingly voting to put back the same leader who talks of Christian values, but never acts upon it.

Ultimately, it will take more than all of us, who are not evangelicals, voting for Democrats, to truly take seats and power away from the Republicans. In the final analysis, it will take the Democrats convincing the evangelicals that liberal thought, with its emphasis on compassion and magnanimity, has more to do with the teachings of Christ, than the lip service to family values that Republicans utilize every year.
