COLORADO SPRINGS — Ushers handed out boxes of tissue as members of New Life Church arrived for what would be an emotional service Sunday morning.
The mega-church's upbeat liturgy, with soft-rock hymns and 7,500 worshipers swaying in unison with outstretched arms, was tempered by somber readings of letters from church founder Ted Haggard and his wife. Less than 24 hours earlier, Haggard had been fired by a board of church overseers for unspecified "sexually immoral conduct" after a Denver man accused him of a three-year series of homosexual encounters and illicit drug use.
Haggard, who has spoken out against homosexuality and gay marriage, was nationally prominent as president of the 30-million-member National Association of Evangelicals. He resigned that position last week...
if he were always allowed to be gay would he be an adulterer or addict? or a gay married preacher instead of hurt himself and his wife and dissillusioned many? OR do I have to like who you chose to marry?

Another GOOD Christian in it for the money.
When will people stop following and giving money to these guys. They don't live what they preach yet the followers are expected to.
He's a drug abusing, gay bashing gay.
I'd be asking for my money back if I went to his church.

Growing up in a heteronormative society where being gay is considered inherently evil, Ted Haggard suppressed his sexuality. In an attempt to change, he turned to God and even spoke out against gays and lesbians. In a bid for normalcy, he married and had a family.
Reverend Haggard now knows firsthand that sexuality cannot be changed. His own denial landed him in a relationship that could never bring him sexual satisfaction, despite what emotional bonds he may have with his wife. Unfortunately, it ended with lies and infidelity. It is probably his frustration and self-loathing that drove him to drugs.
Reverend Haggard has hurt his family terribly and there is no excuse for that. But the problem is not simply that he is gay -- the problem is that he succumbed to societal pressures and drew other into is fragile, fabricated lie.
It's not too late for Rev. Haggard to do something positive for society. He knows, perhaps better than anyone, that no amount of prayer can change someone's sexuality. He should admit that his political views were misguided. He should speak out against the pressures of heternormativity and speak up for committed, loving, honest relationships, gay and straight.

all of us desire our rights, so as that would make all and sundry who voted against it a hypocrite then. i think of the subject is that a great style of persons evaluate it a non secular company and don't desire the definition replaced for the rationalization that that's sacred or something. i'm variety of on the fence with it as that's, i'm no longer non secular yet like a great style of persons i think of a stable compromise would be for them to appreciate each and all the rights and privileges of marriage legally, even have the ceremony and so on. yet depart God out of it. Edit: just to observe, there is not any modern-day data that being gay is genetic. which potential you could say rather everyone seems to be born gay, and it may be genuine, yet you're nonetheless happening faith. i've got by no potential been president the two come to think of of it, or lawyer popular! You men are all anti-johnnyists!

I think you should get to have a union equal to a church type wedding maybe even in a church looking building and even have all the perks a couple that is hetero has but I think if oyur gonna call it marriage then us heteros are gonna have to change the name of our union cuz it is different and I for one do not want to be associated with any institution that has a bunch of men kissing other men. Makes me want to gag, not cuz of some thought process, but because of some inner genetic process that syas yuck. I am one of those people who folks get to know and wonder is he gay, because I am intelligent, sensitive, a fine cook, and gracful in a borderline looking kind of way. Never did dislike gay people except that they kept commin on to me other wise they seemed like nice people, but seeing two men kiss or being associated with the union of two men makes me feel like gagging. Lately there was this TV show I liked siblings or whatever, with Sally field in it. I took off my record list and can not watchit cuz guys are kissing on there. You folks need to understand this is instinctual, genetic, whatever it is it is not gonna go away. I am not in a minority opinion here. I was in the navy, and there were plenty of gays in the navy, and so we who were not talked about these things. Most of us experienced a gag reflex. If I had a choice I would mow you all down with a machine gun b4 I would accept not being able to go out in public without having to worry about puking. You're gonna think this is rare and they will get used to it. I am a counselor and if you keep pushing I know because people share their inner feelings with me, this is not going away, and the pendulum is gonna swing back and bite u on the a$$, and contrary to what u might think, it will not be an enjoyable kinda bite.
Notice shows which were showing this cut down or stopped, new ones trying it but u watch what happens and learn. Keep u PDA secret and forge some kinda union not called marriage.

I'm a bit confused on what you actually want to ask, dearheart. Haggard was guilty of "do what I say not what I do" and now he's paying his own price. If he was allowed to be gay then he might have married another man. It was his choice to use drugs so he is an addict. Dear one, you don't have to life the person I marry. Only *I* have to. Bless you.

you are right he probably was raised so strictly against his own nature that he felt he had to be married and was probably expected by his family to be a preacher and because he could not fight his nature he did drugs to deal with the confusion his gay encounters left him with. he had to preach against what he knew he was to fit in . it is too bad ppl feel they need to fit in so badly

Any church that openly allows gay marriage, etc. isn't really God's church....just going through the motions.
