Spybot - Search & Destroy detects and removes spyware, a relatively new kind of threat not yet covered by common anti-virus applications. Spyware silently tracks your surfing behaviour to create a marketing profile for you that is transmitted without your knowledge to the compilers and sold to advertising companies. If you see new toolbars in your Internet Explorer that you haven't intentionally installed, if your browser crashes inexplicably, or if your home page has been "hijacked" (or changed without your knowledge), your computer is most probably infected with spyware. Even if you don't see the symptoms, your computer may be infected, because more and more spyware is emerging. Spybot-S&D is free, so there's no harm giving it a try to see if something has invaded your computer.

Spyware doctor is out of Australia. They will not let you remove any spyware found as you must purchased. Over the years they have become quite money hungry, considering they are making millions of dollars, charging you every year for the ability to update or remove antispyware found. They will bug you to death about your registration is about to expire. Even if you remove you are directed to their site to fill out a form asking why??. You can just delete the form.
Here are two excellent free antispyware programs that I use and they are in my opinion far superior in technology to Spyware Doctor.
http://www.ewido.net This program was out of Germany and was recently purchased by AVG, out of Prague. So ewido is now called AVG antispyware. This is an excellent free program that is purchased and becomes free if you don't purchase in thirty days. Plus it comes fully complete and you can remove the spyware upon download without purchase. Updates are frequent, daily two or three times per day auto. Plus this program scan all 195,000 objects in my own system. If you don't purchase in the thirty days they will just remove the background guard and the auto updates. You can update on a manual basis.
http://www.emsisoft.com This program is out of Austria. Download their free A2Squared V2 // They will ask you for your email address so they can send you a free key that is good for life. You will get updates on a manual basis that are quite frequent, two or three times per day. So you will have to check.
Plus this program comes with rootkit protection. If you want to the purchased version, which I use in my pc. They have one of the very best background scanners.. Will always catch any antispyware or cookie, before it will ever enter your system. The scanner will pop up an ask you if you want to allow or deny. Plus it also evaluates any program that you download to see if the behavior is not normal. An it will tell you what the program negative actions are an ask you if you still want to allow or block.
Some one says use: superantispyware, This would be an excellent spyware program, as it finds what others fail to find. The only problem is that the above two programs found adware embedded in superantispyware.

PS: While I was testing Spyware Doctor, it destroyed by Windows Media Player 10.
